Living the Good Life in Citrus County Florida

I have lived in Citrus County for 24 years now. For more than 9 years, I have written a blog about the area (To do, Real Estate, Restaurants, etc.) . All of Citrus County is near walking trails, boating, fishing, biking, horseback riding, kayaking. With the Toll Way completed, we are 1 hour + from Tampa. Floral City is located very close to Inverness, fairly rural. You travel at least 5-45 minutes to get to a grocery store and more restaurants, but lots of open land and some lakes. It’s located close to getting on I 75 for traveling.  New Shoppes at (Lecanto) Black Diamond have added big chain box stores like Target, Aldi, Hobby Lobby, Pet Smart,  etc.  New Restaurant s in the 486-491 area: Glory Dayd, Texas Roadhouse, Panda Express, Culvers, Panera, Starbucks  and more coming!   Inverness…”A small town done right.” Has plenty of restaurants, community activities, festivals, and Inverness Golf and Country Club. Near the Chain of Lakes, it’s a probably half hour from the Gulf. Crystal River, of course, is right on the Gulf of Mexico. You have to be careful there for the flood plain areas. City has plenty of shopping, restaurants, businesses and plenty of activities and festivals. Homosassa is straight shot to Tampa. ( Again, it’s near the Gulf) so you have to be careful of where in Homosassa you are located… if you are concerned about a flood plain and path of a hurricane. It has lots of shopping and near the Gulf for boating and fishing.it has some rural areas and a golf community in Sugar Mill Woods. Lecanto. I live in Black Diamond Ranch which is a golfing community. We are 30 minutes from the Gulf , about 15 minutes from King’s Bay and Crystal River for boating and fishing. We are not worried about flood zones in here. Many people are here because of the golf and being in a gated community. Great community to walk or ride your bike too. Not five minutes from the  BD gate, you will find shopping and more shopping is going in. Hernando is the home for The Villages of Citrus Hills. They have modeled themselves after the Villages…near Ocala. If you want more than golf, Citrus Hills does have many other activities and including pickelball and several fitness centers. A large community (thousands) with several village areas. It has two OK golf courses and then Skyview is their premier golf course. Beverly Hills has some small home areas , but it also is home to Pine Ridge. The homes in Pine Ridge are at least 1 acre. They have equestrian areas, there’s a bike trail along the main roads. They are very close to Twisted Oaks Golf Course a nice golf course. Also going up near Twisted ar some smaller homes. You also have Laurel Ridge in Beverly Hills which is near and around the Twisted Oaks.  It’s a smaller community. The homes are older. They may be building some new ones in there, but most of the homes in there have been there a while. Citrus Springs is a rural area with a drive to shopping in Beverly Hills or Dunnellon. Great home prices and lots of new construction.  My sister moved from Michigan and built a home there.  Beware of areas with poor roads and no internet.  Spectrum is expanding service.  Dunnellon is actually in Marion County. It does have the Rainbow River and has all lots of grocery stores, some restaurants, etc. and there’s plenty of rural land and is close Ocala, a growing city with tons of shopping and restaurants.
