April 2024 Citrus County Restaurant Update

Time for the monthly restaurant update.  I include comments about the newly opened Glory Days.

DINNERS:

LECANTO: Everybody has been excited to have Glory Days open. And the reports I’m seeing on nextdoor.com and Facebook and  as well as from people in Black Diamond that I’ve talked to, people are very happy with the food and the service. The food is very good tasting, good portions and reasonably priced.  Menu selection excellent.   Karen and Art had the meatloaf. It is good.   I had the clam chowder and appetizer  wings— there are  several kinds of wings. I had the dry wings, and I think the clam chowder some of the best around. French fries are good. Mike had the ribs and although they’re good, they’re not as good as Codys he says. Joanne had the fried haddock and it was excellent. Other Black Diamond people  comments:  mac & cheese bites are really good splurge.  Three of us had burgers and fries.  Good flavor.  Fries amazing.  Generous portions.  Ross had buff chicken and enjoyed it. The bourbon wings were fantastic.  Baked, not fried.  Most think the cole slaw is bland—it is the only common complaint I have heard.  Looking forward to when it will have less of a daily following, although you can call ahead for seating.  https://www.glorydaysgrill.com/  352-352-1314.

CRYSTAL RIVER: We tried to go to Codys‘s on a Wednesday… that’s two for one fajitas day…long wait, no more call ahead.  So we ended up going to the El Ranchito Mexican in  Crystal River. I had the chicken and cheese quesadilla; it’s very good.  Art liked his combination plate and  Mike’s enchiladas were good.  Very reasonably priced food.

Dan’s Clam Stand: Excellent clam chowder and fried shrimp.  Good grouper basket and Mike and Karen split peel and eat shrimp.

INVERNESS: We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Outback because I like their twin lobster tails and they make a great salad.  Art enjoys the salmon there.

YANKEETOWN: Nine of us journeyed over to Yankeetown to have dinner at one of the nicest restaurants in the area … former Izaak Walton Lodge… now the Blackwater Grille.   The food never disappoints and the service is always good.  Started with four appetizers: the bacon wrapped dates, cheese curds, mussels, and fried calamari; all were excellent. Huge portions, my pork chops were really good, and way too much for me with them cooked “Pamela” Style.  There are about seven different “styles” to choose from when ordering an entree. “Style” is the “way”   you can have your entrées fixed (ie blackened, grilled, other specialty sauces.) I chose to have pork chops  done “Pam style,” which is with  cornbread,  special sauce and shrimp. Seven others had the grouper cooked to a “style” and Joan had the mussels.  No food complaints from anyone.

LUNCHES:

We continue to enjoy lunches at Dunnellon  Front Porch Cafe and Pie. The Cuban is very good and  the lemon meringue pie!   We still like that cranberry pecan chicken salad at (several locations (Inverness, Crystal River, Hernando) Cattledog Roasters. And we’re big fans of Hernando Jimmy’s. T’s.  We like his chicken salad, his chicken noodle soups,  and Boer’s Head meat sandwiches.  We had a great grilled cheese sandwich and we like the tuna melts there,  and at  Beverly Hills New England Café.
