Time for the monthly Citrus County Restaurant update: where have we eaten out, and what have we enjoyed?
A large group of 12 descended the Backwater Fins in Ozello. It’s a pretty long drive but the food is very good. Our group enjoyed: the special that night “all you can eat haddock”; clam chowder, grouper sandwich (no bun); spicy crab bisque; fish tacos; grouper; onion rings; grouper fingers; fried shrimp, and Key lime pie. Prices are right and food is very good.
Oscar Penns in Inverness: Art enjoyed his pork chop; I the she crab soup, Karen had the caprese salad; Mike had seafood pasta. Caesar salads are good. A gourmet delight is this restaurant!
Dan’s Clam Stand in Crystal River never seems to disappoint. A group of eight of us had colossal shrimp, lightly battered; burger; onion rings; muscles; whole lobster and scallops.
Another lengthy drive is to Blackwater Grill in Yankeetown. A large group of us enjoyed dinner there recently. We enjoy two appetizers there: the cheese curds, and the bacon wrap figs. For dinner, people enjoyed barbecue ribs; grouper; salad with chicken; grouper Mediterranean style; red snapper fried; red snapper Florentine; grouper and grits; grouper New Orleans; and pork chops. Large portions! Delish !
We love going to Crystal River’s quiet small restaurant called La Casa Di Norma. Karen had pear ravioli in lobster sauce. MIKE had lasagna. Art had the red snapper, and I had my favorite crab ravioli with shrimp.
Crystal River Seafood Seller: a large group of 10 of us enjoyed lobster roll; fish tacos; fried shrimp; shrimp scampi; red fish; mahi-mahi; scallops; and the country boil, which was clams, snow crab, sausage, shrimp, redskin potatoes, and corn on the cob. Busy place but noted as an excellent seafood place.
Katch 22 in Lecanto is a fine dining restaurant: pricey but gourmet choices. Our group enjoyed fried shrimp, scallop, salmon, and fried cod.
For my birthday, we decided to return to Kanes Cattle Company Restaurant in Crystal River. We hadn’t been there in quite a few years. (They were closed for hurricane damage.) Not a lot of atmosphere, but the food was very good and the service was very good. We split and enjoyed the wedge salad! Art and I had a steak and they cooked right and were very good. Sister Jo had an crusted red snapper and it was good. I would return there just to have that wedge salad.
For Jo’s birthday she chose Texas Roadhouse in Lecanto. I had a salad with grilled chicken and it was good more than I could eat. Art had his roadkill and Joanne had the herb crusted chicken. Good food, good service and good prices.

Stumpknockers on the Square in Inverness is another restaurant that has reasonable prices and very good food. I had fried shrimp. Shrimp comes with sides and hush puppies and corn on the cob. I had coleslaw. They serve a nice salad . Mike had scallops and they were a good size and very good. Art had maple ginger salmon . Karen had fried cod. Again good restaurant with large menu, good food and service.

For lunches beside our favorite clam chowder and tuna melt at New England Pastry and Cafe in Beverly Hill on Fridays… and the chicken noodle soup and Boers head meat sandwiches at Hernando Jimmy T‘s New York Deli . We had lunch at the Dunnellon Front Porch. Art enjoyed the vegetable beef soup, and we split the turkey bacon sandwich on toasted rye bread. We each took a piece of pie home: caramel walnut apple pie for me and lemon meringue pie for Art.
We tried breakfast at Lecanto Panera and it was good: ham and cheese ciabatta, I had the bacon egg and cheese croissant, and we split the cherry danish.
