Time for the monthly restaurant update. As I look back on the number of restaurants that we went to, there were quite a few considering it was the holidays … but I was a little lax in taking pictures. But I do have a few… we went to some of our favorite places including Seafood Seller.
My sister who moved here couple of years ago came to dinner with us at the Seafood Seller in Crystal River. We introduced her to the owner, Jimmy , who loves to do magic tricks at the tables, and he loves to bring out his pet crayfish. The fish there is excellent. Snapper was the special that night and you can see the size of the fish that Joan had, and several others in our party. His clam chowder is pretty good. Lloyd likes the gumbo. Dessert is beignets. The service is always good, and the prices are reasonable. You just have to be patient to get in there because they don’t take reservations.
Dan’s Clam, Crystal River, continues to be a good place for seafood. I tried the one pound of lobster tail. It really was too much for me. I brought part of it home, it was good, but pricy. Art always enjoys the grouper basket there and most of the gang likes the fried shrimp.
Las Magueyes is a great place for Mexican dinner, and they can accommodate a large group. The food is good and reasonable. We went to the Beverly Hills location.
For New Year’s Eve we went to Crystal River Bayside Kraft Kitchen. The food is good, but it is so noisy there, nice if you could sit outside…but been a little cold here.
We returned to Lecanto Glory Days. It’s not so hectic as it was when they first opened, and now there are so many more restaurants here to choose from. I had their clam chowder and shrimp appetizer. Both tasted OK. I thought the chowder was better the first time I had it when they just opened. Art continues to like the meatloaf as well as Mike.
We’ve had some nice lunches and dinners at Black Diamond, but we really enjoy the Sunday brunch. Chef has a special frittata and/or has a special every week. The frittata ingredient change also.
We continue to enjoy our lunches from Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy, T’s and New England Café.
We have been happy with the meats we get from the Chopping Block Meat Market on 491 in Lecanto. A lot of their beef is prime. Applewood smoked bacon, kielbasa and pork chops are good too. 352-249-7680.
